Javelina with Kent Ostrem of Mahaska bows
« on: March 30, 2008, 08:18:00 PM »
My buddy and I have the last week of January and the first week of Febuary off next year and want to hunt some javelinas.  We have done a bit of research and to meet our requirements of the time of year we can both get off, the number of people in our group (just the two of us), and expense, we have narrowed it down to just a few.  Kent's Texas hunts is one of them.  Alot of the other outfitters either hunt later in the year or won't book a two man group, or like Arizona hunts is a draw and quite a bit more than a Texas hunt.  So can anyone that has hunted with Kent give us some feedback on your experience.  Was there hogs or just javelina?  How about small game?  What was the javelina population like?  Would you go back?  Any predator hunting?  What about if you tag out early?  Overall we are looking for a good time, with plenty of shooting at small game or hogs and a good chance at a javelina.  We don't mind longs days in the field, plenty of walking, and require minimal living conditions, although a cold beer at the end of the day is welcome, but not required.  We can dress our own game, although neither of us have eany experience with a javelina.  You can also PM me particlars if you aren't comfortable listing them in an open forum.  Any other suggestions would be equally appreciated.  Thanks!

Just got back the 28th from our annual UBM Hunt with Kent.  Great hunting and terrain.  Just about everything there Sticks, Stings, Stabs, or Bites...but that just comes with the territory.  PM me or email if you'd like more info.

Lefty, there is an article in the newest TBM where they hunt javelina at Kent's place. They killed a javelina or two and several rabbits each.

Just got back from there with Gene and rest of the group. Good hunting and accomodations. No hogs on the place but rabbits and predators are there along with lots of kinds of cactus. Contact me for more info.

Hi Dan,

I thought maybe you had gotten lost on the way home.  LOL
It is a pretty good little drive from your house.

For Chris' info,  I plan on going back next year!

Kent's last group of the season--10 bowhunters--too 8 javelina.  Only two lost.  Definitely a some of the best javelina hunting I've ever seen in Texas.  Great country.  Lots of room to roam.  Big javelina.  Pm me if you'd like some more information.
