JD Berry Taipan / Toelke Whip
« on: January 18, 2019, 12:59:33 PM »
I own and shoot a Toekle Whip.  Have always liked the looks of the Taipan and James has brought it back and I'm seriously considering getting one made.  For those who have shot or handled both, could you tell me how the Taipan compares to the Whip?
Mostly interested in craftsmanship, grip, noise and handshock.  Let's see where this gets us....  Thanks, Pat.

Completely different animals in my opinion. Just my opinion, but I think you can get away with a little shorter bow with the whip. I had a 62" Taipan that was awesome, but a 64 would have fit me better. I would not hesitate own another one. I don't  have to tell you about the whip. I LOVED the limb cross section of the taipan.

Thank you Craig! If anyone else has shot both and can chime in, that would be very helpful. Thanks, Pat

I have shot a multitude of both. Every tai pan I have shot I really liked, but same with the whip. The whip is nice narrow and sleek, but then so Is the taipan. The main difference limb wise is the tai pan has trapped limbs and a deeper lam stack. The tai pans had incredible cast!!!! Not that the whip doesn't have good cast though, but Taipan hands down on cast. As far as hand shock, neither had any I can feel. Speed? If that matters I think the Taipan has the slight upper hand. The whip is uncommonly quite, but again so is the taipan.  I honestly can't think of anything bad to say about either bow. But I do favor the taipan. Just the way it feels to me and looks I guess. Not that the whips dont feel great though because they did. I realize I have probably helped none. Lol this has been a tough comparison!
