I recently shot this short video on using the Handy Clicker in either your bow or string hand. I hope it's useful for those who are already using a Handy Clicker and those on the fence about trying one.

Whittler, the Handy Clicker is not a draw check, so it does not, on it's own, set your draw length. However, the added shot control and time at full draw provided by the HC, allows you to develop a solid, consistent anchor to achieve a very repeatable draw length.

The rules are unclear about where the HC would be legal in competition.

Under IBO, traditional bow rules it seems the HC would be legal in the Recurve Un-aided class, as that class permits clickers/draw checks. It might also be legal in the Recurve Class. Recurve does not permit draw checks, but because the HC is not a draw check, it might be considered legal.

The Handy Clicker's leather sleeve holds a spring steel clicker. Pressing the tab on the HC is somewhat like squeezing the trigger of a rifle. After you have fully settled into your anchor and transferred the bow's weight to your back for a comfortable holding position, you begin squeezing the tab. When it pops, you shoot.

The HC helps to manage target panic and cures short drawing problems, as your release is no longer triggered by your sight picture or your stage in the draw cycle, but rather by the HC.

Having had "target" panic BAD for years I'm sorry I can only see this working for about 2 days if that. I've personally had it so bad I was ready to give up bow hunting. I hope I'm wrong and hope it helps millions but I just don't see it as a cure.
Good luck and for everyone it works for I'm seriously happy for you. And I mean that truly.  I hope you punch bulls eyes and kill every critter you aim at from now to eternity. But to me it's like silencing a fire alarm. It only temporally addresses the problem. You've got a fire or a false alarm, deal with either.

LC, in some ways you're right. The HC is not a magic bullet. I think of it as a way to manage target panic, but the shooter must do his/her part to establish at least minimal mental shot control.

For the record, I too have had target panic for years. Everyone's symptoms are different and more or less severe. For me, the HC provides enough structure to achieve absolute shot control, but I realize that might not be true for everyone.

Thanks for the offer. I've got friends who are absolutely assassins with limb mounted clickers. For me they worked for a couple days. I had target panic so bad I was ready to give up bow hunting.

Jay Kidwell sent me a letter that set me on solid ground. He said I needed to spend a month of close bail NOT SHOOTING. I needed to pull back aim and not shoot. Surprised me that simple step took WAY longer than I thought!  When I mastered that I needed to aim then do a figure eight around the target and re aim and not shoot! IF you have target panic you know how tuff to impossible this is to do! I'm talking MONTHs not days of pulling the bow back and NEVER releasing a arrow! So to be clear I spent two months drawing my bow back with a arrow sighting on a target that I never shot at. TUFF! Eventually you shoot at close range and extend the range. IF you ever fail to release before you are ready you fail.

There's no easy button or pill to take to correct the problem. It's your brain and you need to retrain. Tough. Most folks can't or aren't willing to spend the time.

Like I said I truly hope your device helps tons of folks. I truly mean that. And like limb mounted clickers like with my friend it does work. However atleast with limb mounted clickers you know your have came to full draw or extension. Not with your product. I just want folks to know if it fails there's other options.

LC, thanks for your thoughtful comments. I commend you on your tenacity.

I also have found a lot of value in Jay Kidwell's writing and have tried a number of his methods with some degree of success. I really like his suggestion for imagining a button or a coin on your target, especially one that you carry in your pocket and get to know like it's your own hand.

My aim is to help people. When I can spend time with someone in person, I first try to work them through shot control problems using drills and mantras, but as you point out that doesn't work for most people. The next step is psychotriggers and clickers.

Even the best competitive target archers suffer from target panic. It's often said that the winner isn't the best shot, but the one who happened to best control his target panic that day.
