setup help
« on: February 27, 2019, 12:40:15 PM »
Hey All, At the risk of :deadhorse:, looking for opinions on my setup. I am shooting a 46# @ 28" Blacktail , my draw is 28.5" . Arrows are carbon, 580 grains w/ 375 grains up front. FOC is right at 30% if I'm measuring correctly. Flying like darts, maybe the best flight I've discovered, broadheads are single bevel. My question is, is this setup adequate for Elk? Personally, I feel I'm right at the minimum for poundage and weight, but would like to hear your opinions. all comments appreciated. Skid

im not going to give u an answer but i am going to ask a few questions...

how close do u think u need to be before shooting ?
can u put the arrow in the right place at that distance every time?
have u ever seen an elk up close...have u seen one boned out so u know what ur dealing with ?

we live close so if u would like some direction ill try to help.

Hi Durp.........I wouldn't shoot past 20 yds, I'm confident from there and in. I have killed a few  ( never with traditional gear) and been around many kills, had my share on my back. Yes familiar with their structure. Thanks

I'm at 50# with a. 500+ grain arrow set up.
I haven't taken an elk with it but I'm confident in my set up and shooting ability so I'm therefore confident period. Won't know for sure till the moment of truth.
Like durp, I live close and would be glad to do some shooting and tuning with ya.
        Good luck, kevin

It's enough. What would you do if folks said it wasn't?

Well first, add weight to the arrow, by going up in spine to a 350 I could add another 70 grains (shaft and heavier point)and still have a great flying arrow. I'm waiting my turn to have another set of (56# @ 28) limbs built. It's a long wait to production, Elk season will be here by that time and  I'd really like to hunt with this bow this year. Thanks! Skid

Man with that set up and that amount of arrow I would go into September with the utmost confidence. You have set your yardage limitation, you have a rig that will kill anything on the continent.. Go hunting bud!
