Lignafile, it is suprisingly comfortable (especially if you put a leather or suede handle on it.  The hinge is fairly thin and you can make them feel as if they blend in to the back of the bow.  On the last one I did, the bow had overlays on the back and I milled a pocket in the inlay for the hinge. It really blended in well.
