Sorry for the clickbait title...
So I recently built my second bow and ran into an issue I thought I'd share. After sanding 'er smooth I read a lot about the different finishes that could be used and decided on VHT paint. Well, in my haste I bought the "flameproof" one instead of the wheel paint, which requires "curing" per the can. You can probably guess my dilemma as I waited a couple days to see if the paint would actually dry. It did not! So I started browsing forums for ideas on how to remove it. Sanding was the predominate method for refinishing but no one addressed stripper and possible damage that may happen. My options came down to wait out the paint, sand it off (gum up the paper with every stroke), or strip it off. My urge to shoot the bow over powered my patience, so I decided on Citristrip paint stripper (least probability for damage). Here are the results for anyone wondering if they've screwed up their bow with the wrong paint as I thought I did

So the lesson learned: Citristrip will not damage or discolor your bow!

I feel your pain, I had a laquer that didn't go hard and had to do the same thing. Its a worry thinking your about to ruin something so nice, glad it turned out ok for you, regards wayne.

I've used stripper on an old bow once and it worked well.

I couldn't find the wheel paint at my local parts store so I went with Dupli-color as advised...You should be good with that VHT though.

That says hi temp , is that the stuff you had trouble with?

No...the one I used was the Flameproof" rated for 1300-2000 degrees (which requires curing-see below and avoid) The wheel paint is only 250 degree rating and consequently does not require heat curing....But I know a guy who knows how to get it off should anyone use the wrong paint...hahaha!
