as most of us have come to know sooner or later, bows like to be fed what they like, not what we like. with a new-to-me hybrid 64" longbow that's 47@28, i went through a number of different carbons that i keep on hand for arrow-to-bow fitting. didn't take long to see that this stick liked bare shaft 500's with 175gn points and it spoke to me with well grouped arrows fired from 10 to 15 yards. time to fletch a few up and get in some closer to real world testing - first with field points, then with broadheads (my fave, the woodsman 3-blade).
i like to start off with Big Feathers, 5-1/2" x 5/8". i have a nice ribbon for that shape and after tape/glue fletching on the feathers, burnt the shape in ....
... and did some testing at 7 yards then 15 yards. at both distances the POI was all over the target, telling me the fletches were too high. back to the burner where i bent up a new low profile and trimmed off one of the shafts ...
... that worked out well and then i swapped the field point for a woodsman and got the same good flight and POI results.
