They are under the handle wrap, but you can see the holes and fill with glue or I did...

The last one I done had no toothpicks just eye ball it real good when putting it in the jig.

I saw one done with fiber fix repair wrap once. Seems like it would be a lot less messy.

I understand some older bowyers do that..
