This hunt isn't pocket change...

Since you have asked for advice/opinions I’ll weigh in.  I think your statement above indicates where you are at.  Personally, if I were going to allocate household resources for a hunt like this, I’d be taking one of my bows and no regrets with outcome.  In my opinion if you take both, you’re watering down your experience.  Perhaps give yourself a set date to make your final decision, but if you’re being honest with yourself (the only person you need to wrestle this with) and you’re going to regret coming home empty handed because you spent a lot of money and a rifle in your hands would have made a successful hunt, then hunt with the rifle-you’ll enjoy it more.  My vacation time/hunting time is too precious to be doing anything else but relaxing and immersing myself.  But those are my thoughts. Best of luck with your decision and your hunt.

Gary, I was like you in my 40's and maybe 50's.

In 2017, I had two bull Caribou go past me.  Knowing they were being driven two miles back, I used my White tail knowledge to set up.  After a few minutes, I realized, no, they're not whitetail - they will go down the center of the meadow rather than the edge.  But, too late, there were the two.  Busted.

So, I moved.  And, later came the huge bull.  And, like large whitetail, he came obliquely to the meadow, not down the center.  But like Quebec Caribou, he headed to the top of the rise.  Knowledge gained just a tad too late.

Yet, I don't have any regrets.  None.  Don't ask why.  I can't explain.

So, it's all in the eye of the beholder in the end.  We all like success.  But, for me, anymore, success with a rifle is not really success.

And, Quebec Caribou hunting is ended, perhaps for my lifetime.
Mid 50s here.  I'm currently struggling with a shoulder injury and practice limited due to it.  My upcoming bear hunt is on my mind.  Outfitter says he can get me within 15 yards.  As long as I can stay fairly consistent there my Primaltech will sit with me.
I just wont take the chance of wounding one because I can't maintain form due of an injury.
For me there is no shame in hunting with whatever weapon fulfills you.  If you are deciding it only because of what someone here or who you know thinks then there is a greater issue.  It just may mean you can't post a pic here.
For me though the group of friends I'm going with will make this trip a lifetime memory.  The fact I'll probably only go once however is what makes me want it to be with my LB.
For my peace of mind and satisfaction.   Not for anyone else.

The real question I asked myself that got me to the point I am in my life is,is it about the hunt or just getting a kill? I have absolutely no regrets bowhunting, and not getting an animal.

Ok it's not a Dall, but if I paint it white it would be!

I killed this Stone at 7 yards and drew on another a day earlier at 30 yards but a young ram stepped in and blocked me. If you can live with a ram walking away at 100m , for the chance to kill one at 20, take your bow, if not take your rifle.

The real question is "are you a bowhunter or not".

I posted earlier we couldn't talk about guns.  Too many mentions of rifles in this thread.

I can't let that snowball start rolling....

Quoting Terry:  "I can't let this snowball start rolling"

There it is...in a nutshell !!   :wavey:

 And as Orion stated ......
How important to you is how you hunt?  When how you hunt becomes more important to you than how big or how many or how much it costs, etc., you'll have your answer.

we do stix'n strings....period.  its okay if you choose any other legal method of hunting....but don't post it here....Its OK!!....but not here... :wavey:

We ARE Trad Gang! ....started many years ago by Terry "Tarzan" Green ...and I am confident his vision will never change....and that is the only reason I am still here..
