Turkey 4 me 0
« on: April 04, 2008, 09:56:00 PM »
The turkey tonight had 4 lives. I can't beleave I missed him 4 times. First one was 20yrds right over his head. Next 3 right under him at 23-30yrds drew feather on the second shot. Just a lucky turkey. After they move off the field we went out and found the arrows, came back to the blind and touched the blades up and waited a couple more hours and had more come in but all were out of range, it was a great hunt though. About the only thing I can figure went wrong is that I was hunting out of the blind with my youngest son and I put the screens up because he moves alittle much. And I never practiced out of the blind with them on the windows. So Turkeys 4 me 0, but we have a long season still ahead of us.

My 11yro. son took his first turkey wensday evening. So know I have to get one, he was ragging on me when I told him I missed 4 times.

So lets hear about your hits or misses this year turkey hunting.

Sounds like a fun night! Also sounds like you are in a good area, pick a spot and good luck.

Got a few more weeks before the Ohio and PA openers. Will let you know. Hope to get even with a huge gobbler from last year. My buddy saw him strutting around in his usual place the other day. My buddy missed him one day and we called him in again the next day and I missed, LOL!

It has been open in Texas for a week or so and I had a chance to get out...we weren't in the blind 40 minutes here comes a BIG tom with a bunch of hens.  He works his way to about 25 yards(at best judgement) and I have a nice broad sideed shot at him,  I pull the bow back focus on a spot and the arrow is away...HE jumps, his wings flap once andthe hens look around and then it happens,,,I reach for another arrow...BUSTED!!! A wiley henn saw the movement and just as they came they were gone....I shot right over his back    Turkeys one, me nothin...

So I sit in the blind and go over how that went praying more turkeys would come in.  Sure enough, 45 minutes later here come a bunch of Jakes and one young tom...about a 5 inch beard but a young bird.  Good eatin me thinks!    ;)     So they work their way to within the 25 yard area again and I begin to draw back on a broadsided shot of this young tom and he turns away from me and starts to walk out the way he came...

I pick a spot, focus and the arrow is away...THUD...
He is down in one flop and dead in the next....My first turkey with a bow!!!!Not the big boy I wanted but some fine eatin for sure!

I don't use a blind.
I put out a jake and hen decoy and sit in my guille about five yards away.
It will work if I can get a tom to strut around them, But the only thing I had come in this year is a bearded hen---at 5yards---NO way to draw on her!BTW bearded hens are leagl here.

Our season starts the 21st and my brother gets to hunt that morning. He'll be using the Benelli so I hope he scores early so the birds can settle down and give me a chance to Zipper one later in the week. I can't wait to try a Treeshark on one of those birds!
