bow refinish ?
« on: May 23, 2019, 09:59:38 AM »
I am trying to help a friend out who just lost her husband. She gave me a Ben Pearson recurve that appears to be a lower end model (no tip overlays) as it was painted black and I can't read the info just yet. My issue is her husband used gorilla glue and two wood screws to attach a Qwikee quiver clip for a quiver to the bow. I can't move the screws. Any thoughts on how to soften up that glue.  I would like to clean the bow up for her so she can move it down the road.

I think acetone will cut superglue, but not sure on the regular gorilla glue. But be careful where you apply so you don’t cut any glue you aren’t wanting to.

BTW , wife’s nail polish remover is acetone .
Stay sharp, Kenny.

If its the regular Gorilla glue that foams up I haven't found anything that will soften it, including acetone.  Is the quiver bracket metal or some type of plastic?  Would grinding it off then sanding the area smooth work?
If I'd known that I would live this long I'd have taken better care of myself.

If as you say, the bow appears to be a lower end model, I'd leave as is if she is going sell it.  I doubt the quiver attachment is going to affect the value much and perhaps not as much as a failed attempt to remove it.

Jon, contact Gorilla tech support to see how to break down the glue. I did that with TBIII and found out it breaks down at 150deg(F).
