Is this true?

That the 4g cellular cameras will not work when they roll out 5g? I don't have one, I don't need one, I don't want one. Just trying to save members here some money if this is true. I imagine that quite a few will be hitting the market as people try to get rid of them. And the manufacturers will be cutting prices. Anyone know if this is true??

No need to worry, no one even knows what 5G will be yet. VZW is phasing out 3G at the end of 2019. Att is phasing it out 2020. 4G will be around a long time.

I wouldn’t think this to be true. If cellular trial cams work on 4g...they should work even after 5g rolls out. Same with phones. Older cellphones didn’t stop working when they came out with 4g.

I still have a trail camera that only takes 2 gb cards. I just buy them on line.
Too many of us "non-techies" still around

I think the question was more about data (a photo) going from point A to point B. Again, 5G is just a word at this time. 4G will be around for maybe 10 years once they figure out how to made 5G work. There a 100's of millions of 4G devices out there and they can't build a new technology for transmit without having things that can receive it. But once 4G is phased out way down the road, it is correct that a 4G devise won't transmit or receive data from a 5G network.
And.......by then we will be talking about 6G and when that's coming.

That's what I was told, they would be able to take a picture but couldn't transmit it.
I also saw that they are rolling out 5g in 6 cities in the next couple months.

Can't imagine the chaos if folks can't transmit pics....I find that hard to believe...no one had a problem going to 4g that I remember.
I'm more worried about other, much more serious, issues with 5g.

Data is many things besides photos and cell phones are not the only device dependent on wireless technology. An example: Tower lights need to be monitored 24/7. They used to have a POTS line running to the tower before wireless and now they have a modem to the lighting controllers that works by transmitting off one of the major carriers network, typically VZW or ATT. With 3G going away, all those 100's of 1000's of 3G modems now have to be upgraded to 4G or they won't work on a 4G networks. Towers are one of the many things that need remote wireless 24/7 monitoring and all those modems need to be upgraded if they are not 4G currently. And they can't upgrade to 5G because they don't know what 5G will be yet.

I stopped by the local Best Buy and talked to a Rep. He said that any devices built for a 4 g network, cameras-phones- whatever, will NOT work on 5 g. He did say that 4 g will be around for a year or so after 5 g comes on line.
