Hill Bow question
« on: September 17, 2019, 09:07:18 PM »
Okay guys, please give me your opinion. I’m thinking about a myrtle riser and bamboo cores for a new bow. Black or Brown glass?

My choice would be brown both sides with a nice chocolate brown leather grip wrap.  I had one with white belly glass and found I just prefer darker.

Seems to me like the White could easily be seen by approaching deer

White on the belly will only be seen by the deer behind you.  ;-)

That’s what I was thinking...getting busted by a deer approaching you from behind

I would go with clear glass on a Cougar or Half breed.  Not to start an argument, but i am not so sure that white glass is all that terrifying to a deer.  They may see it, but one day I had 18 deer from with in a few feet to 25 yards for over a half hour.  My body silhouette was broken by a single Christmas tree sized cedar, sitting on my Nifty Seat, the white bow was fully exposed, the deer never bother to even look at me.  I did begin a draw tempting myself to shoot one, but the deer near it moved around and I was afraid i would hit the second deer on the pass through. They still did not seem to care.  However, the buck that i wanted was kept busy chasing a hot doe around out of range.  Then a button buck got downwind of me, walked up to me sniffed my neck, snotted on me when he snorted, then ran through the group snorting and they all ran along with him. I think recklessly waving any colored bow around will get a deer's attention.  Staring them in the eyes at ground level will get their attention. Stinking like an old Dutchman really gets their attention.  Oh I just i changed my mind, a Cougar with clear glass and a bubinga riser or very dark myrtle. Ask for no knots.

Yeah,  Greg's killed a few with a white bow even though everybody knows it can't be done.

I would prefer brown glass front and back along with caramelized bamboo.

Some time back on TAS a JD Berry Morningstar with walnut lams was posted.  I drooled on my keyboard, just looking at it.  I think the op needs to expand the choices, there is more to bow selection than just glass color.
