Leaving wood arrows in a bow quiver?
« on: December 26, 2019, 07:31:35 PM »
I am very much enjoying my switch to wood arrows and find they fly better and quieter from my bow.  I am shooting better than ever with them for some reason!

That being said I am back and forth on storage.  I keep them in an arrow case from Plano when not in use but my question is regarding storage for a couple days in my bow quiver.  I hunted this evening and intend to hunt on Sunday evening or possibly Saturday.  Will it hurt anything to leave them in my bow quiver for a couple days?  I have no intention of it being longer at any point but surely it shouldn't hurt considering people leave them in for a week or more on hunts in nasty conditions.

Curious on thoughts.

Thanks!

Unless they're somehow stressed in the bow quiver (unlikely) it won't hurt them at all to leave them in the quiver.  I have some in one of my bow quivers that have been there for more than a month with no ill effects.

One way I do put a temporary bend in them though is to carry the bow under my arm.  This puts pressure on the shafts between the hood and lower arrow gripper, sometimes putting a slight bend in the shafts.  Pretty easy to take them out at the end of the day and straighten if necessary.

You are fine unless you’re leaning the arrows on something.  I leave mine in a quiver all the time

Appreciate it!  That’s what I assumed but didn’t want to not ask and regret it.

I love wood arrows. Have or did make my own for years. From buying raw shafts to buying close grained board douglas fir from the the local Lowes, to sawing them square then rounding them with a plane. Yeah been there done that, complete with making my own wild turkey fletch. The problem I always saw or had with woodies is from loading them into a bow quiver the compression ring from the rubber gripper ALWAYS made a weak spot on the shaft. If a arrow broke 90% of the time it was where it was compressed from the rubber bow quiver holder. With that said I never had one break upon use from shooting etc or never lost a animal because of it but I'm just telling you my experience. The experience of a decade old carbon arrow shooter now. lol

I leave wood arrows in my bow quiver for months. From before and all the way thru bow season. Never had a problem.

I actually leave my hunting arrows in the quiver all year as that’s how I like to shoot in the off season due to the weight distribution. I never take them out and have never had any problems.

This is how I like to shoot year round as well. Never worried about it with carbons but had to check.

I leave my wood hunting arrows ( mostly cedar ) in my bow quiver through the whole archery season ( October and November ), and then again from December 26st to the end of January with no problems.

My woods live in the quiver all season and often times even longer.  Don't leave them with something pressuring them to bend at all.

I leave my woodies  that I practice with in my Hill quiver all year long, my hunting arrows with broadheads stay in my Safari Tuff unless I switch bows then they go in an arrow box. This arrangement seems to work for me with no ill effects.
