R100/TAC
« on: January 05, 2020, 07:37:28 PM »
Just curious how many here participate in the R100 shoots or the Total Archery Challenge? I've shot the R100 and it's a great time with the family, I've never done the TAC but would love to give it a shot.  Now that they have posted events on their websites I was curious who's going? Or if you've shot both which do you prefer?  :archer2:

Have shot two R100's...enjoyed both shoots

The only reasonably close R100 is scheduled the same weekend as the Tennessee Spring Classic.

On the other side of the fence I'm afraid.  I have shot 4 different R100's with various friends who wanted to attend.  I can't say I enjoyed any of them.  Massive crowds and lines at every target.  They are never trad only and we had to stand around forever waiting for the wheel guys to stare through their binos and make their adjustments.  Just not my idea of a good time.   :banghead:

I shot my first Total Archery Challenge last May in Tennessee. I enjoyed it. The terrain was tiring for an old guy and the targets were a long way from the stake in most cases. Lots of the targets were situated directly in front of rock walls. Others were tucked into spaces between good sized rocks. It seemed that the guys who set the courses did so with the idea of having people blow up their arrows. And people did. Me included. But we still had fun. We shot three of the four courses and enjoyed them all. The operative word in the name of the event is CHALLENGE.

By the way, there were three of us trad guys in our group and we only saw about three more trad bows the entire weekend. But we were able to earn some respect from some of the compound guys. We couldn't talk any of them into shooting our bows, however.

I shot at the R100 once. I had fun but the wait was the only thing I didn't like. Most of the wait because they had alot of targets had 2 stakes you had to shoot from.

I've done the Total Archery Challenge several times and really enjoy it. The whole point of the shoot is to make difficult, generally longer distance shots. The majority of guys shooting are compound shooters, but the number of trad guys has increased every year at the event I've gone to. You don't have to shoot from the stakes, but it sure is fun just to shoot long bombs for a change. Not that it's super realistic hunting practice for a trade bow but it's a lot of fun. Every time I've gone I've ended up shooting with compound guys that I'd never met before, but always had a great time shooting with them. If you've got the chance to go to one, I highly recommend it. Bring a bunch of buddies to talk to because it can go a bit slower.
