Bow shop in upstate New York
« on: January 12, 2020, 08:29:31 PM »
I’m new to the trad life and could use some help getting set up. Are there any shops in the upstate area that focus on trad set ups?  I live in the Catskills in Sullivan county. Thanks in advance. Rich

Not many trad shops around anymore. You might be better off trying to find some trad shooters in your area or at local sporting clubs/ ranges or at  winter leagues. Talking to people that have been shooting stickbows awhile will help when you're first start your trad journey. There probably is some trad people closer than you think.

Thanks for the input. I’ll talk to the local shop owners and try to find a mentor;)

I gave up long ago when Creekside Gunshop went under. I just had to learn to do things myself, which is the beauty of a trad bow, and I make my own arrows. I Mail order everything from 3 Rivers or the like.

South of you but try Flying Arrow in Carmel. They have a pretty good selection of trad bows. There are a number of us trad guys that shoot there on the indoor range. I think they also have a store in Wappingers Fall, but I have not been to that one.

just the mere mention of Creekside brings back a flood of old memories, can't remember how many bighorn ramhunter longbows I ordered from wayne merritt. I shot in their league when they first started them, I even dated the owners daughter for a short while!! :goldtooth:

Carbonflyr, Yah, I bought a Bighorn 3 pc custom job from Wayne. He introduced me to Bighorn bows and said he and all his friends shot Bighorns! LOL! Good old days. I hated to see that place go under. I was there almost every Saturday from 1987 till the end. What town R U from? Im in Canandaigua.
