Who has made the big switch.
« on: February 03, 2020, 04:47:53 PM »
When I learned to shoot a bang stick I naturally put the thing in my left hand. My dad proceeded to tell me that my life would be easier to shoot right handed at the time. Since I have to shoot both for work and do fine either way but am holstered on the right side. Bows are a similar tale. I started right hand shooting when I started trad until a few years ago I injured my right shoulder.

I did the logical thing (kidding) and bought a high dollar left handed bow. The results were pitiful at first but I began to get better. Now I shoot almost as good as right and at the moment my lefty bow is my all time favorite bow of all time (truly a beautiful bow to behold and shoots as good as it looks). I'm toying with the idea of getting a new bow to meet state minimums for elk as my current lefty is too light and am beginning to think about making the switch to left full time.

But my right hand shooting has been a crutch for me for years and can always rely on it to hit good groups when I need. I feel as though I need to pick one and have the other in the back pocket in case I need but I believe to truly excell at one I need to pick and stick with it and not switch back in forth. My right hand is still a little stronger but my left has much better technique and I think would further develop.  Thoughts? And have any of you all made the same switch?? If so what pushed you over the edge.

Which is your dominant eye? I would go with that as the deciding factor.

I unfortunately or fortunately am one of the populous without a dominant eye. I see equally well with both I shoot both pistol and rifle with both well. I write right handed but play hockey left. And on and on and on back and forth.

Sounds like a good thing.  Keep working both!  That's a great ability tobhave.

I can afford to shoot most any bow I like.  And I like Primal Tech bows.

I am quite left eye dominant, but I won’t even try a left handed bow. For anything other than holding stuff, my left hand is completely useless. I have no dexterity and agility with it, and can’t imagine trying to release a string with it.

Now put a rifle in that same hand and I’m good to go, but that requires next to no finesse.

I also was a righty before an injury. I switched to left and do equally well lefty.
After some time, I was able to get an operation to help me shoot right handed again.
I do both, and like the idea of balancing out my muscles. I am right eye dominant, so I need to shut one eye when shooting lefty, but I like doing both. Why choose?

Good point. I do similar but shoot with both eyes open for both hands. Maybe I'll just keep it up.

I did it last year.  Right handed but TP and cumulative trauma in fingers and shoulder pushed me over.  Really doing as well now as ever righty and I am in control...getting stronger all the time. I am like you no real dominant eye and used to play hockey.   :archer2:

Funny thing about it, though...I'm a pretty decent guitar player in the standard RH style, which means all the fancy fretboard work is done with the left hand. :dunno:

Embrace the ambi ! I was strongly left handed and footed for most of my life...except playing guitar. After Lasik surgery in my late 30's  I started to become more and and more RED. Now I am very much RED. I took a 26# RH Howatt Ventura and started shooting RH and did it until I was pretty good. Then I started shooting LH now and then. Now I shoot both, sometimes alternate every other shot .My dual shelf 1956 Kodiak is my ambidextrous secret weapon. The hardest thing, now, is to remember whether I'm shooting LH or RH ...sometimes I grab the wrong tab or quiver.

I've adopted too many bows that needed a good home.

Hahaha you guys are hilarious. Well I guess I'll stick with both no reason to choose I suppose.
