cracked riser

Was shooting one of my fav recurves tonite and the riser cracked. Is there a good reliable way to repair that? Any help appreciated.

That happened to me once when my bow dry fired because of a broken nock, and it surprised me to the point that I let the bow fly out of my hand, and the riser cracked when it hit the pavement.  The bowyer cut me a good deal on a new riser, which has worked fine ever since. To me, that's the best solution possible.  No bowyer wants to think that one of his risers would crack on its own, and I’m sure he appreciated me telling him the true story.  Only an expert could tell you if it might be possible to repair the one you have.

A picture would definitely help. Where is the crack? Did you hear it or just look down and suddenly notice it?

No didn't hear it, just was looking at it before laying it down and saw it. I contacted the bowyer and even though its out of warrenty. He is willing to repair it all I have to pay is shipping both ways I thought that more than fair.

I have had bows develop small cracks and if they are in the grip, sight window of the handle, they can be stabilized by using Locktite 420.  Locktite is very thin, and little 420 on the crack it will seep into it. Assuming it is through the finish.  If the crack is near the fade out, I would call a repair shop, like Rich Lopez "droptine" is his handle, or Bow Hospital, because the area tends to flex a little.  Removing the excess with a razorblade will make it easier to sand and refinish (touch up). Allow to dry 24 hrs in a warm room, before sanding and refinishing.

Sounds like you got a solution with the bowyer.I tend to agree with the last post.Saturate the crack with 420 and get it all the way down until its spilling out a bit.Wipe off access sand and refinish and see how it goes.
