I hunt on private land only.  Part of it borders an old growth timber plot, 80 acres.  They just started logging it off today.  The brush and new growth in there this summer is going to be amazing.  Come this fall it will be loaded with deer and turkey.  To give you an idea the old boy who had it logged last drug them out with a double hitch of draft horses.

My grandfather used to do that in the mountains of PA, it will be a bonanza for the game.

Native forbs and natural growth will definitely benefit not only the deer but all the critters. Watch for non native invasive species coming up and remove/kill them early on. My brother in laws property was logged a little over 7 years ago and Asian bush honeysuckle took the place over. Horrible stuff and unlike Japanese honeysuckle holds no real values for wildlife. It does provide cover but as I’ve been removing the Asian bush, American spice bush has started taking its place. Spice bush is somewhat invasive but does no where near the damage that the Asian bush does. You and the deer will enjoy the benefits of the logging!

I'm not allowed to hunt the timber land, but the increase in bedding and browse will provide more critters moving into our corn and beans.

That is some pile of logs.  With no real size comparison it looks like they cut at least up to 20+ inch stuff.  What species trees are those ?

Varied species, Black Walnut, maple, oak, bass wood, poplar.  Diameters range from 10 inches to 24.  The land is too rugged and full of rock and ravines to be useful for crops, thank god.
