Made A Tab
« on: April 30, 2020, 07:27:00 PM »
I've been trying to like a tab,and was fixing to buy a couple of the more expensive ones.

I got some cordovan leather from Traditions Leathercraft, and thought I would try to make one. It works really well. I'm going to do a little more trimming and then stich or use some sinew to tie the top piece down. I'm going to make a three under also.

Looks functional.  As a long time tab user (50+ years with a Wilson) I think you will like tabs.  I believe they offer a little more of a crisp release over a glove.  One thing I have on my tabs is an extra layer of leather behind the face.  Right now I am looking at three different brands and all have this extra layer.  Most likely it minimizes grooves forming from the string.  If your tab was my tab I might trim the end off just a tad shorter- looks pretty long.  Your stitching looks great.  Rick, this virus thing is hitting you hard.  Seems like you are digging out old bows to shoot with your dog, getting into string making, and now venturing into tabs.  Take care.

Thanks Steve. It is hitting us hard, but I keep plenty of beer on hand.

I should have put another piece of leather on the back, but I guess I can always make another one. I need to make a three under also.

I'm headed out back right now with the dog,and going to cook up some beans and my Crane hunt hog in my dutch overn.
