Another one completed
« on: March 21, 2020, 12:12:11 AM »
Put final coats of finish on this one today. This was a challenging build, fought me the whole way but finished out pretty good. I gotta adjust my fades a lil bit, and gonna add another .001 taper to same design. Want to get a lil more bend mid limb but aside from that shes dead in the hand and stacks arrows nicely. Dead quiet. So, will giving Kenny a holler sometime next week for more stuff.  Learned a bunch on this one. Finished out 54@28”. Curly maple riser, birdseye overlays on black glass. Red elm cores with .002 taper and a .001 superlam.
Sorry no full draw pics, once i get a shelf rug and strike plate on and get the bear hide silencers made and on string will post full draw pic as Id like to hear opinions on it.

Heres a full draw pic. I’d like opinions on limb bend. My thought is a lil more bend mid limb maybe, or lil less lower at fades. Or am I good here?

I think both of those but without the bow in hand I don't know what to suggest.

An honest blunt evaluation?  I think the bow is headed for failure at the fades.  :scared:

How long is that bow? With the superlam it really shouldn’t bend that hard at the fades .
Stay sharp, Kenny.

How wide are the limbs at the nock and at the fades?

Bow is 60”. 1-1/4” at wnd of fade, 5/8” at tip.
Open to suggestions as far as stack adjustments. I am going to adjust fades, they are .220 2” from end sanded down to nothing. Between 1/16-1/8” at 1”. Lil thicker than they should be. My line of thought, and correct me if Im wrong headed would be the fades as mentioned and an additional .001-.002 taper in limbs with lart of that being a superlam.

Is it an optical photo effect or is the bottom limb longer than the top?

Do you have a front view profile pic  from the pic it looks like your not getting much bend from mid limb out , it could be the front profile ?

That's what I was thinking give 1.25 at the fades and 5/8  at the tips.   Not much to be done at the fades but you could start about 1/3 out from the fades and narrow the limbs to very narrow tips.  It will take pressure off that sharp angled bend at the fades and allow the mid to outer limbs to bend more and do more work.

Yeah...  You got room to take the width down...  That should change up the bend a hair...  You can go just under 1/2" at the tips and it will be fine... Hope you are a little over the expected weight...

I like a 1/4" on those tips.  Might need to thicken the tip overlays.

Thanks to all for the input. Havent been on here a lot last few weeks, been doin more fishing. Anyway, I gave thought to narrowing it a little more through the mid limb, but Im already about 5# lighter than I wanted so left it as it was. I may go back and do it just to see what happens, and where the weight ends up. I dont normally shoot under 48# at my draw, but if its gonna be light, can use it to experiment with.  Meanwhile, after discussing with Kenny, next build I'm adding and additional .001 taper, for .004 total, and bumped the stack up .010. Will be making a few minor changes to riser, particular attention to fades. We'll see how that shakes out.  As for a couple of the questions, both limbs are the same length and do not have a front profile pic of it. Waiting on post office on next set of cores and glass, mail delivery has been a lil goofy with all of this virus business going on. But the steelhead are running so at least I can fish. Be safe everyone, stay healthy.

I’d be surprised if it failed. I’ve seen bowyers build reverse taper bows that shot fine and it’s counterintuitive. He is a well known bowyer. I mean it’s possible but the bow and glue materials are so dang tough

You have Steelhead up there? How do they get there? Do you live in one of the most beautiful places on Earth, or is it just unusually photogenic :bigsmyl:

I fondly remember spring steelhead in the UP.  Do the smelt still run?
