Pittsley Predator arrow questions...
« on: April 16, 2008, 03:21:00 PM »
Hello Gang!
I`m having a new Pred on the way (54@28 +/- 1) and I`m having some questions concerning arrows. My draw is about 28"

1.) Does anyone know what the recommended minimun weight in gpp is?

2.) I`m planing to use 100 grain brass inserts and tips of about 125 to 145 grains. Anyone got some recommendation where to start spine-wise? (I`m going to bareshaft anyway, so I just need a starting point)

Thank you for your input and greetings from Germany!
Martin

Beman MFX classic 400 29.25 long,  those are 10.4gpi with your 100gr insert and a 125 point should be around 550gr total arrow weight, they should fly perfect and hit like a ton of bricks.

I would go with a 400 or 500 spine arrow. The Predator has a reputation as a fast bow, so if you are getting a full 28" of draw, opt for a 400 spine arrow. The Carbon Expess line has several and those brass inserts seem to fit the CX arrows pretty well. I'm going to try out the CX Rebel Hunter whenever I need another batch. Right now I'm shooting Vapors in a 400 spine and I have a dozen Gold Tips in 400 that I have to get through. Yeah, its a bad problem, I know.

Yeah. The 100 grain brass inserts from 3 Rivers fit loose in those Gold Tip shafts. Use the Gold Tip weight system instead. The brass weights screw right into the back of the inserts that come with the arrows. They come in a 50 grain size, but you can use two per arrow to make 100 grains. Black Widow sells them.

Im using 30" 175gr up front (50gr brass insert 125 point) 3 X 4" feathers 5575 Gold Tip blems from sipsey river ($39.95US a doz) for my 59#@28" Predator classic. They are flying really sweet and super fast. Total arrow weight is only around 450gr.

Hi everyone! Just wanted to get you updated on the results of my bareshafting from yesterday. Sorry it took so long, but I had to undergo some ankle surgery.
So, the bow came out 55@28, my draw is 28" and a tad. I started with the GT Expedition 5575 and after the first shot it was like "...ooops!". At 15 yards 4 feet right of the target, impact angle of the shaft was somewhere between 45 und 60 degrees with the the nock to the right! Weightreduction at the pointside and shortening the shaft was all without any recognizable effect, so me and my buddy Chris (the man who really got the perfect bareshaft eyes!) started to climb the spine ladder upwards  and I ended up with CX Heritage 350 29.5", the original CX insert and 175 grain points. That is by far more spine (the CX should be around .320 what I know) than I thought I would need, but... perfect flight out to 35 yards and they bring some decent weight, they should be somewhere about 10 grains/lb. The deertarget was shaking nicely under the impact  ;)
