Red Wing year? Now with pictures
« on: February 25, 2020, 05:12:15 AM »
I’ve got this early 1960”s Red Wing heading to my address this week and it’s what I believe is an actual 1962 year “Not by the serial number” but after doing lots of study on the Wing years and from what WingNut described in an old post I found here .
It has the rounded grip heal where glass meets the grip.
He claimed they didn’t do this but a year or so and went back to a square heal.
It certainly looks like a Brazilian rosewood and by looks very very clean except for a finish flake where I was told was possibly a blister in finish and someone picked at it But I think I can finish that area with no problem.
Anyway I made an offer on it and owner excepted it and now I’m excited Praying it arrives here safe and sound and in condition it was advertised as.I will take pictures when it arrives.

Keeper, great bow, when you get it tell me the serial number and I can confirm the year for you. It should have just the letter R followed by a - then 2, 3, or 4 digits of numbers. The less digits the earlier it was made. Rosewood was used in 1962-64 RWH.

Kelly,
I know the serial number and got pictures of it but they are pictures I took a snap shot of and can’t seem to post here for some reason.
The Serial number is R-2059 that I do know . It’s Rosewood that I Am 100% sure of.

Absolutely beautiful. Brazilian Rosewood for sure and I’d guess 1963 because of the higher four digit serial number, especially the 2659 number.

That will be a great shooting bow if you keep the brace height close to 8”.

After looking at the catalogs I stand corrected and agree that yours is a 1962.

 UPDATE!
Well ever since I got my 1962 Brazilian Red Wing Hunter I have been in my shop stripping the old dried out red felt that had some very hard glue under it.
The black feather rest was worn like a road kill buzzard and it too had dried up and glue was hard as old gum under a school desk .
Now I have been cleaning some old dull grime which wasn’t real bad and making a new b-  50 Flemish twist string, puffs ,and a new rug rest of industrial grade Velcro with a tapered piece of leather I glued under the Velcro with barge cement to lift the shelf up some.
Sort of gave it a hump so to speak.
Then Mark here(mango boat) sent me a Wing side plate to make it official and I think him very much for his generosity .
So here is the Wing all dressed up .

You scored well with that bow-gorgeous!
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.

Here’s a before and after picture of that flake in the finish I repaired.
It can still be found if you look real hard but it’s smooth now so moisture won’t be an issue.

That is a beautiful Red Wing,,,,stunning to say the least.
Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison;
