Monarch Longbows - Monty
« on: May 22, 2020, 07:04:33 PM »
Does anybody know the serial number range for the bows that Monty built or any other determining factors? Did Monty ever sign them? Thanks for the help!

I have two by Monty and neither are signed.  I can't answer your first question on serial number range.

Thanks for the info. What are the serial numbers on the two you have? That might help me narrow it down at least.

I don't know if they have serial numbers or even the year made.  I have a Monarch Royal that I purchased from a classified add.  All it had on it was Monarch longbow, Royal and the Specs (64" 57#@28 ).  I believe Ron's name (bowyer) was under the Leather Wrap.
I imagine Monty did sign some of them, and I am pretty sure that I have seen Byron's name on an occasional Monarch bow that has been pictured on the internet.

This is a poor picture but you can see where the name, under the wrap, is in the glare.  The Monarch Royal is pictured next to an Aspen Vector by Byron.

Thanks for the info! Does yours happen to say “Monarch Bows” or “Monarch Longbows”? From what I’ve found online it looks like Byron and Monty usually put “Monarch Longbows” and Ron switched to putting “Monarch Bows” at some point. And I think you are right about Byron usually signing the ones he did.

So, I am up my mother's tonight.  I have been keeping the Monarch up here so that I have something to shoot when I am up here.
It has Monarch Bows on it, and it is a Raghorn and not a Royal.  I got a good picture of it to share but the image must be too big.  I have tried to post it a few times tonight with this post.

I have a Royal make custom made for me by Byron when he the sole owner and bowyer and still teaching. I won it at a Montana Bowhunter's banquet when I was active in the organization back in the 80's , when I still lived in Montana. Byron let me come down to his shop in Missoula and pick out he woods. It has Shedua a riser and Red Elm laminations and elk horn tip overlays, all it has written on it besides my name is "Royal", Monarch Longbow and 67#@28".

Monty used to sign his under the leather grip also, or just his initials, M.M.
