questions on veneer impact and mixed material risers

I'm planning on dusting off my form and laying up my first bow in over 15 years.  As I've looked at the beautiful bows folks here are working on, I had a couple questions in thinking about a new build.

1.  does the veneer selection have any performance impact?  for example, does using a heavy veneer, like cocobolo, on a actionboo lamination stack have a measurable or noticeable impact vs having an entirely actionboo stack?

2.  does using a G10 I beam in a 1 piece riser create any problems as it goes into the fade?  I guess I could ask the same question of a riser constructed of multiple woods with very different properties.

1. probably not enough to see with your eye.
2. get the fade thin enough should have no problems.

When using veneers, the thinner they are, the less impact they will have. Use something under .030 per veneer and it will be negligible.

The biggest thing you may notice using a piece of G10 in your riser is that it will nearly or completely eliminate any riser flex.. At the fades, you won't notice anything.

It doesn't Monterey. I've got probably over 800 bows out there with at least a 3/4" i-beam of g10 and another 1000 with 1/4"-3/8" of g10 I-beam without a single fade out failure that I'm aware of. These have been in existence for as long as 7 years.

It may be a small increase, but adding g10... not phenolic, can increase speed by a couple feet per second.

Risers without substantial enforcement can and will flex considerably more than most would think. Even solid phenolic risers flex quite a bit. Remove the flex adds speed. This is not why I do it though.

So with this should you count the veneer thickness in your stack?

Yes you should definitely count it in your stack. It has a sensible impact if you don’t (don’t ask me how I know)
