Quiver I made, turned out OK...

Thought I would let you guys take a look at a quiver I made from some junk laying around at work, and a few items from the hardware store.

           

My model here is only 5'8" (Thanks Holly!) so it looks a little long. I am 6'5" so it fits me a little better. I can shorten it up some, but wanted to make sure I had enough length to move the arrow up and out. It is made from thin walled PVC drain pipe and caps. I made the cut-out with a dremel and drilled holes for the hardware and D-rings (purchased at Ace Hardware).

The shoulder straps came off another center back quiver I have, but I think they started out life as duffel bag shoulder straps. The foam in the bottom is closed cell foam I cabbaged somewhere (it came out of a life jacket) and have been using to make flyrod poppers for smallmouth.

The paint is just the cheap "camo" spray paint, also from Ace.

This quiver works GREAT for me. In the pictures it is hard to see, but it holds 8 arrows with 51/2 high-back fletchings. It is quiet, water proofish and my fletchings don't get damaged in the back seat of the truck.

Nice,I've been using one I made just like it for several years now. Works great and protects the arrows from getting wet or damaged. I made one out of scrap camo leather for my last one. I prefer a single strap so mine rides crossways so I can slide it up under my arm when I'm crawling through the thick stuff.

I made one in a smaller diameter, but very similar. So far, its the best quiver I have for hunting. Nicely done.

I am not quite finished with a quiver like that, but I used a torch to gently head up the side that goes against your back and then "flattened" it on the cement. It made it more comfortable. Also, with the pvc drain pipe, it is so strong and just a bit heavy. So, because I attached an outer "cover" over the whole thing, I took a rotozip and cut diagonal elongated holes out of the body all over to lighten it up and it maintaines its strength.

Didn't mean to disparage the height challenged folks out there. Your legs are plenty long, they reach the ground when you walk don't they?

It has been a handy quiver for turkey hunting so far. I have a hunting pard or two that wants one, and enough left over for a few more.

I used the thin walled drain pipe, not the stuff used for higher pressure purposes. It seems pretty light to me. The wall thickness is about 1/8 of an inch. The caps give more weight than anything.

Thanks again for all the encouragement. Hopefully I can provide a picture of the quiver with a turkey in it as well.

Very nice. I'm planning on trying this aswell but htink I will use a thin piece of 1/4" plywood cut to fit inside the pipe for the caps to cut down on size and weight.

I tried that as well. I couldn't come up with a secure way to attach the disks inside the tube, but you may have better insight than me. The caps really are not that heavy. The sturdy caps provide a decent "bump and bash" gaurd for the quiver. I didn't glue them on (just pressure fitted). They do not come off easily,but I figured if I came up with something else, I could pop them off and try it.

Good luck with your project, I would like to see a picture when you get done.

To attach wood inside of pvc,I've used a disk of 1/2" plywood same diameter as outside of pipe that was beveled (cone shaped), pressed in, 3 screws around the edges to hold it. Shipped lots of stuff never had it come apart.I think a 1/4" would be to thin my .2 worth
