Short recurves?

Who makes a 44" or 46" recurve for tree stand hunting ?

Was a fella, I think his name was Kiki Kovar, who made very short recurves.  Can't remember what they were called, and I'm pretty sure they're not made anymore. Saw another short bow made by someone on this or another trad site, but I don't think it was under 50 inches. I believe the Bear Super mag is 48 inches.  Can probably find one of those on the big auction site. 

Of course, you don't need a bow as short as you're considering for tree stand hunting.  I (and a lot of other people) have taken deer out of tree stands with 68-inch longbows. 

Finger pinch would be severe with a 44- or 46-inch recurve.

the kodiak mag is 52 with a 48" string , thats pretty short. killed a bunch of deer with mine. but there is no need to shoot a short bow just because your in a tree. just saying

Little Suckling Recurves have been advertising in Traditional Bowhunter Mag for a looooong time. Shortest 'curves I've seen, but I have no experience with em.

Not gonna find many in that length.The gentleman mentioned Kiko avove.Those were really short and had a ton of deflex to help make them work and they had a high wrist grip as well.

The bear Kodiak Super Mag would be worth looking for used at 48 inches.Red Wings Hunters and Kodiak mags are 52 inches and they are nice.I had the 52 inch Red Wing Hunter a few times.I liked it.

My other short recurve was a Toelke 52 incher called a Troll.Its really nice and well designed.Shot great for me!I draw about 29 inches.

I think it will be much easier to find 52 or 54 inch recurves.Many more choices their.I have found those lengths to very handy and short enough for ground hunting,Stalking,still hunting,blinds and knarly trees with lots of branches etc.

The Little Suckling mentioned above were made by Kiko Tovar. Made in 38" and 44".Seem to remember seeing that someone was building them again? Very unique bows.

I have a Morrison 13" ILF riser with a set of medium Max6 limbs that yields a 56" bow.  It came with a cheap flemish string so I am waiting on a new one from Mountain Muffler.
So far it seems to be right on the edge for my 28" draw.  Hard to tell just yet as I have been shooting 60" recurves for so long.
I thought about selling it, but market is bad right now.

I shoot a K-mag @ 52" AMO. No issues with clearance. The Super 48 is 48" AMO but some folks have complained of finger pinch and/or stacking. I wouldn't recommend that short of a bow if your draw length is 28 or greater.

I shot a Bear Magnum 48 for years.  it was 60# at 28" and I draw 30 inches so I figured I was getting about 65 #.  I shoot with a soft leather tab that lets my ring finger slide off the string some at full draw.  Even with the high grip handle the finger squeeze is real!  After many years the bow started showing very fine cracks in the black back of the limbs right where the fade-outs ended.  I assumed (probably wrongly, I don't know) that the fiber glass was suffering so I retired the bow.  I shot a Bear Cheyenne for a few years.  Nice bow, 55" AMO,  but the limb tips were so heavy that it shot slow.  I am now shooting a Fox Archery  High Sierra that is 56" long.  It is very handy in a tree stand and a ground blind. 

For me the dividing line is right around 58".  At less than 58" the bow is short enough to do well in the gnarly trees I have on my place.  Longer than 58" and I end up having trouble with limb-tips hitting something they shouldn't on release.  I had 3 misses that should have been hits years ago when I was trying to hunt with a 62 inch recurve.  After that year I went short and never looked back.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

A few years ago, I bought a used Browning Cobra, 50" AMO.  It was made sometime in the 70s.  I shot it a few times a week & took a turkey with it last year.  This year, it got a crack in the limb it & I hung it up.  I was disappointed at first but I realized that it was 40-50 years old and I shot well over 1k arrows through it in just a couple of years.  For <$150 on Ebay, I call it money well-spent.
