New JT Archery Zeus Longbow
« on: September 02, 2020, 11:25:52 AM »
I met John Tussing at the Kalamazoo Expo in 2017 when my Son Zack ordered an Apollo longbow from him. I have since had the pleasure of test shooting many of his bows at different venues from Compton's to the Great Lakes Longbow Invitational. I am lucky to live in Michigan and attending these events is quite easy, in fact I live only 20 minutes from Kalamazoo so I of course faithfully attend that event. Anyway, I have been interested in ordering a bow from John for some time and when he developed his new model the "ZEUS" I had to get one. I greatly prefer longer length bows despite John's efforts to get me into short bows, so the 64" Zeus was my choice. I ordered it at 55# @27" in the 64" length. After sending John the deposit, the bow was in the works. Anyone that knows John knows that he isn't an idle guy, he is always on the move and busy so his turn around time is impressive. When the bow was to the point of building the grip, John called me and I made the drive up to his shop for a grip fitting and test drive. When John pulled the Zeus out and handed it to me I was taken aback by it's beauty. I have owned well over 40 bows during my nearly 30 year traditional bow hunting career and I can honestly say that it is the most beautiful and high quality bow that I have ever owned. I test shot it and was blown away by it's smooth performance. The grip didn't need a thing done to it as it was exactly what I wanted which is saying something as I am absolutely anal about a bow's grip. John and I went to a local 3D course to shoot along with a couple other guys that were customers of John's and we all shot our JT bows. The other guys had 40# and 46# bows that shot like gold. Rick the owner of the 46# bow had shot clean through a 500 plus pound black bear with his bow. He had also sent it to Dave Windauer of Schafer bows to have a grip checker job done......wow! Outstanding job on the grip, I will be sending Dave my Zeus after hunting season. I will post pics here but I wanted to give John a shout out. He is one of the best bowyers in the industry in my opinion and certainly one of the most generous. Thank you for everything John, I can't be any happier with your work and friendship.

These pics are taken in John's shop. The bow wasn't finished as he has to sand it once more and put one more coat of sealer on it that will dull it up for hunting. I almost feel guilty letting him dull this beauty. The wood that was used on the belly, tip overlays and riser overlay is cedar or for western guys, juniper. It has carbon backed limbs and a G 10 I beam in the riser. I'm telling you, John knows his stuff when it comes to using different materials for different performance outcomes. If you have never shot a JT Archery bow, you are flat missing out! Order one from him and you will be thrilled with it.
