Looking for a Turkey Leg Bone (Femur)
«

Because of my hearing loss, I can't hear turkeys and thus don't hunt them with my longbow anymore. I made two turkey leg bone knives this spring for an auction to benefit the NWTF. The winning knife sold for $300 to help the NWTF. I'm looking for a turkey femur bone to make one for myself. So if anyone has a turkey leg in the freezer, I'd be interested in the femur. I could and may have to just use one from our Thanksgiving dinner...but I'd prefer a wild bone. Thanks...tippit
This is the leg bone I'm looking for...

There is no rush. I've got until Thanksgiving before I use a white turkey leg bone.

Hi Jeff,
I have some in my freezer that are still surrounded by meat! I like to slow-cook the leg & thigh "quarters" (so I know they will be tender) and make soup from the shredded meat and broth. If you are still looking for one just give me a PM. I assume you don't want the bone cooked (?), so I would debone the thigh before I cook the quarter.
Just let me know and I will make sure turkey soup is on my October menu (I just roasted half a turkey breast on Monday so I am in a "turkey mood")!

Tom,
Cooking the turkey bone is no problem as I need to boil them once the meat is off to get all the cartilage off the bone. Then I would cut the bone to handle size and re-boil to get the marrow out of the bone. All that has to be removed and dry before I can glue the knife spike in along with sealing the end with hot liquid pewter.

That sounds easy enough Jeff. I will be sure to cook at least one quarter this month and I will PM you when I am ready to ship for your SC address. I can save additional turkey femurs as I cook them in the future if you think you might have a use for them.
I hope you and your family have been keeping well.

Tom,
A couple turkey femurs would be great. I really like the feel of that little knife. Might make one for ST Judes Auction. This is how they fit together. Family is fine as we are staying on our SC farm and didn't return to Boston this spring. Hope your family is fine too...Jeff
Top one is a turkey Tibia bone. Looks kinda prehistoric.but feels good too.

We have been fine up here too Jeff, thanks. I will PM you later this month when the bones are ready to ship. I will save the tibia for you also. I hope you are enjoying these early fall days.
