Take downs and limbs?

So I have read on here a couple of times about guys with take downs that use different limbs on them.  Or will buy a new set for the old handle.  How do you know what limbs will fit your bow?  Who makes a riser that has the most aftermarket limbs that will fit?  If you buy a hoyt game master can you use bear limbs on it?  O guess what I am asking is if you all can help me learn a little more about this?

The most versatile risers I know of are thoes that accept ILF limbs.There are at least a half dozen different international makers of ILF limbs.They range in price from $100-$700 a set and even the cheaper limbs are good.

The best thing is that you can order a set and in most cases have them in less than a week.

There are actually two sides to this discussion. Many people will buy a takedown bow with the thought that they would buy replacement limbs or limbs in other weights from the bowyer who made the bow. For some bows, like the Bear take down, you can find lots of these bows or the limbs on auction sites.

The other side is wht R H Clark is talking about. There are a number of bow risers that are designed to fit the ILF limbs or which can be retrofitted to accept them, like the Warf bows.

ILF (it stands for International Limb Fitting system) limbs are competition limbs that are very efficient and easy to shoot. Many people are also using them for hunting.

Most bows will only accept limbs from the same maker as the riser.Even then some bowyers will require the riser to perfectly fit a new set of limbs.

ILF is just a system to standardize limbs to be used on different make risers.The last few years there have been more short hunting length risers made to accept ILF limbs.

There are even ILF longbow limbs now.

It's a good system if you are interested in owning several sets of limbs or happen to have a limb failure or accident and need to get a new set fast.

I googled ILF and Warf and now I am really confused.  Is there a company named warf that makes risers?  Or do you convert your riser to be a warf riser?

Does anyone have a picture of the ILF system?

Morrison may have some ILF photos on his site as well as DAS-both sponsors here. You can also check out any of the mainstream target bow builders such as Winex and Hoyt and more others than I can name since I don't personally use that type bow at the present.          Grant

There is a guy whose handle/screenname is Warf. He was one of the first folks,if not the first one, to modify the limb pockets on old compound risers to fit ILF limbs. Only certain models would work because you needed a certain of limb pocket.
