Looking For A Good Arrow Smith
« on: April 23, 2008, 12:20:00 AM »
I have always made up my own arrows for as long as I have been shooting. I would like to try out a custom set. I have been shooting laminated birch, ash, and some hex pine lately. Any suggestions on who you have had good experience with, and has made you a nice set of arrows.
                              Thanks, Phil

I've been buying arrows from Jim Curlee for over 10 years. He also supplies many arrowsmiths with great shafts.
He advertises in Traditional Bowhunter Mag.

Phil, I asked the same question here a few months ago.  Paul at Elite Arrows got alot of positive remarks.  After talking to him I ordered a dozen and they are awesome!  He's an artist!

Yup Elite Arrows gets my vote.  I haven't found a better made wood arrow yet!!

Llike Granpa, I use  Bob Burton when I don't make my own.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Paul Mattson at Badger Arrows- he's a sponsor and I can vouch for his work- his arrows are top-notch and his service is truly outstanding. I'll support him as long as he builds arrows.

Also, check out Sipsey River- another sponsor who also gives great service.

I'll be the third to recommend Bill Stroupe. He makes a good arrow and is a fine fellow.

Hey there,

Hate to sound like a scratchy record.  Bill Stroupe.  Builds Pretty arrows.  Very straight and accurate.  Also makes some Great kids arrows that work great for my kids underpowered bows.

I have used both Elite Arrows and J&M Traditions arrows.  Both are very straight.  J&M were a little nicer - mostly because I got the breast tapered shafts.
I would recommend either with no hesitation.

We all love our local favorites. Mine is Milt Beens of Wildcat Canyon Archery in Durango, CO. Milt is a potter and painter as well as an arrowsmith, and hand-paints tiny logos on each shaft -- his trademark wildcat, deer or elk tracks, or whatever you like. Just gorgeous work and the highest quality, closesly matched shafts. 970/247-2894.  Dave
