Best 500 spine carbon
« on: April 24, 2008, 10:29:00 PM »
I need to get some more arrows and am trying to decide what kind to get.  I currently am shooting Beman 500's but I have broken more of them than I expected.  Are other brands a lot better?

I shoot the bemans full length (31 1/2") and cant go any shorter because of my long draw.

Thanks,

Mark

I bought 6 Easton Power Flight 500's. I have not had any issues with them and they are not very expensive; six of them cost me 24 dollars. Might be worth trying. I am not sure if they would have been long enough, I cannot remember what the uncut length was.

If durability is the main thing, the CX Heritage arrows are pretty tough.  I would agree with RH that the Maximas are better quality arrows, but probably more fragile.  Paul.

radial x weaves work for me pretty good i shoot a 45# bow at 28 but my draw is almost 30 and they fly good and have have put them thru some rough stuff and they work good or try gold tip arrows the traditionals or the traditonal xts for a dozen of the tradtional ones are like 60$

I do think the Maxima's are some of the best arrows out there but if you are breaking a lot of carbons you probably need to check your target. If you shoot a bag,and arrows hang down a little,it doesn't take much to strike a shaft with another arrow and break it.

I've only broken one Carbon Express Heritage 150!  I've had several critters run off with them banging on trees the whole way.  One buck I shot broke the front off only because it was sticking out his brisket about 6 inches when he made his death run.  I've never broken one from stump shooting.

I like Beman MFX alittle more the Beman ICS,the MFX are alittle heavier, thicker walled and I believe more durable then ICS.And I like to foot my MFX with a 1" piece of aluminum shaft and find those to be the most durable.

they were the ics hunters. Now that I think about it I think I was expecting too much of them. Two of them broke when I was pulling them - I wiggled them side to side to try to free them and I know carbon arrows do not like that. They both broke off near the tip.

I want to use something available locally which limits me to bemans, gold tips, or eastons. I would try gold tips but according to their web site the 500s are only 30" long, which is too short.  I guess I will just get another dozen bemans, since I don't want to spend the $$ for ACC arrows.

I really like beman ICS hunters.  With a heavy insert they are pretty adjustable to different bow weights.

I had bad luck with the Carbon Express Heritage 150's.  Broke a bunch of them pretty easily.

I shoot and like the carbon express maxima 150's.  The threaded insert allows a bunch of point variations.

I've been shooting Beeman 500s for quite some time now and have to agree about the durability problem.

I love the spine to weight ratio and the value. But I am continually astounded at how little it takes to break them. I have about half a dozen left and will not be replenishing my supply.

On the other hand, the CE Heritage shafts that others have mentioned are dang near indestructible. In two years, I've yet to break a single one of them. I will probably try the new Heritage 90s to replace the Beemans in my lower poundage bows...may also try the ST Epics.

I like the Beman Venture 500 shafts a lot - I currently have about 3 dozen of fletched arrows and another 6 dozen of bare shafts.  I find them to be quite durable at a 29" shaft length with 300 grains up front.  I've only busted a few during stumping - when judos collide with rocks, something's gotta give and I've lost 2 last year when the shaft behind the head collapsed on impact.  SO, I started coating the first 6" or so of the shaft foot with thin CYA glue  - dribble on, wipe off with a paper towel - I think this adds a valid measure of durability and stiffness to the shaft's "working end".  What I haven't tried is to also coat the inside of the shaft as well.

I concur on the vaporwoods, I have the 3000s which are 400 spine, shooting them with the Sentman I bought from you Tal I bounced a few off rocks and hit one midshaft with another arrow with no damage.
Sipsey river had some, but they may be sold out you'd want the 2000's. Really enjoying the bow BTW.

I made the same experience. I think the problem is the HIT insert. If I hit something hard, my fieldpoint bends and breaks the shaft open. I will probably stic with the CX Heritage 90. Anybody tried the infused carbon Axis yet?
