Acadian woods 3pc tree stick. What spine arrow? Help
« on: April 22, 2021, 06:29:08 PM »
Hi guys,
I have a 56 inch3pc tree stick 50pound at my 27 inch draw. I can’t find a arrow that doesn’t fly tail right significantly. I tried 29 inch carbon heritage 150 spine with 300 grains up front tail right bad. 50pound spine wood arrows 160 up front 29 inches same tail right. These bows are cut to center. Anyone have some advice?

Thanks
Randy

Not much help for ya, but, if those Heritage are .150 spine(?),  they are going to be wayyy to stiff for you.  God luck,  hope someone can help you.  Are you left hand or right hand?

I've never been able to figure out the numbers on carbon express arrows.  Are 150s spined about .500? If so, with that arrow length and weight up front, I would consider them weak.  Same with the 29-inch 50# wood arrow and 160 grains up front.  I assume you're using a low stretch string on that rather high performance bow.  As such, the arrows  might be slapping off your riser and waggling as they go down range.  More important than how the arrow flies is where it impacts.  Does it impact where your're aiming, or right or left of where you're aiming?

Regardless, there's a good chance your problem is with your form.   With a "longbow" that short, even a hybrid, it's difficult to get off the string cleanly.  The string tends to hang up on the fingers, particularly with a split finger release.  That, in turn creates erratic arrow flight.  I'm making a lot of assumptions here, but worth considering.

I agree with car 54 probably stiff. I've had good luck with those shafts and that poundage but always start full length.

Orion is correct those arrows are way weak I just plugged in your numbers on Stu Millers little calculator which I find very accurate if you enter the correct information and have decent form.

Thanks guys. I just tried a 2016 Easton aluminum 29 inches with 250 grain field point and it has gotten better so I’m going to try a 2013 tomorrow. This is my first long bow. The reason I liked it is because the grip is like a recurve. I’ve shot recurves for 20 years and I’ve never had this big a issue. I would have thought being cut center you could shot about anything out of it.

Ps. I tried 250 heritage carbons same tail right.

Thank y’all so much for your input
Randy

I shoot a bunch of bows that are 50@ 27 using heritage 150's and my arrows are usually dead on or close with a 100gr insert and 125gr head or regular insert and 200gr points..  your arrows kicking right with me would mean stiff shaft but maybe where its cut past center its or your release its different not sure.

whats your string is it skinny or normal because with skinny strings I have to jump to heritage 250's its a huge difference in spine I'm actually fazing out all the skinny strings on my bows because spine wise they are all too fussy,,,,,  but make sure your nocks arent too tight also and be sure your release is smooth and of course your draw length is perfect,,  start over with light points and keep going heavier even if you have to use washers behind field points to keep bringing up the point weight just to figure out what it wants to shoot.

edit;  when I shot 2016's my other option for a faster arrow was 2114's,,, but hunting wise I highly recommnend 2016's its a thicker wall and skinnier shaft,,,,, the 2114's won me alot of trophys but boy they were fragile shafts.

The bow is cut to center and I put a skinny string on it and the 150 heritage with a brass 50gr incurs with 250 point still tails right
This is only bow I’ve had this much trouble with.

I’ve been shooting Acadian woods bows for 20 + years, and owned several models. My current is the same specs as yours. Maybe it’s just my shooting style or form, but I’ve never been able to shoot arrows stiffer than .600 spine with any Acadian bow that’s 50 lb or less at my draw. I am shooting gold tip 15-35’s at 29.5” with 3-4” feathers and a 175 grain point and the standard aluminum insert, they fly great and are pretty flat shooting. Every time I go to .500 spine, I have to leave shafts around 31” and go over 200 grains up front, and they really rainbow past 16 to 18 yards.

tbird-51, that is exactly what I’m thinking they like a weaker shaft. I have some carbon express heritage 90 on the way I hope these will get me closer to what I’m going to need. Tim of Acadian bows is going to be at Howard Hill classic in June and I’m going to get with him then.

Thanks
Randy
