"Successful Day"
I waited for the little buck to cross my lane.
Heart quickens as I let out my breath.
Anxious to draw yet, I refrain.
And lack of movement becomes a pain.
But, I want a clean and speedy death.
Longbow in hand, I start to sweat
Hoping it does not catch my scent.
Inside my nerves begin to fret.
Still, the time is not yet
To bring a close to this event.
Slowly the buck and lane did merge.
The longbow and I became one.
All the air my lungs did purge.
I felt the adrenaline in my body surge.
Just as quickly, all was done.
Thoughts reflect upon the day.
The hunt that had transpired
A red trail showed the way.
To where my little trophy lay
I gathered up before the sun retired.
