Will this work????
« on: April 26, 2008, 02:19:00 PM »
I'm getting some stuff together to build  a couple dozen arrows.  I've done some topic searches for info but still a little concerned about compatibilty of paints and such.

I've built arrows with Bohning products in the past and always had great luck, but my supplies are old and I'm trying to get the job done with supplies I have at my disposal and want to avoid ordering them.

here's what I had in mind.

1.Paint with krylon spray paint
2.seal with Defthane Poly Wipe on (or Tru-Oil)
3.Crest with Testors model paint
4.Seal with Defthane Poly Wipe on (or Tru-Oil)
5.Fletch with duco

Will that work??

I have used Krylon paint, water based poly and Duco with good results. TruOil will probably work fine too.     Pat

It will probably work, Trap, but I suggest a different order.

1)  Stain, if you are wanting to.
2)  Seal with polyurethane - 2 coats
3)  Paint with Krylon (crown or whole shaft?).
4)  Crest
5)  Final coat with poly
6)  Fletch with Duco

I've never used spray paint for crowns, but lots of folks use it with fine results, so have at it.  Too many coats of oil base poly will darken/yellow your crest and crown, that's why I limit it to one final coat to protect the crown and crest.  Enjoy!

Ye Rick I was planning on a white crown with the balance of the shaft yellow.  Kinda like some of the arrows of the 50s and 60s.

Good advice, thanks, Trap
