Early Bear Kodiak double shelf help needed
«

I have just picked up a early double shelf Bear Kodiak. It is in fantastic condition. I have a new old stock Bear sting to put on it and I am eager to shoot her but I am just not sure where to start on a brace height? Anyone have a suggestion on a height I should start at? Initial stringing puts it right at 8 inches but seemed like the string was a little short and there are not to many twists to take out of the string. 60AMO Thanks

With the string on the bow, take a piece of leather, fold it around the string and rub out the string above and below the center serving (any unserved portion). If you measure brace before and after you will probably notice a 1/2” loss in brace height. The heat generated should stretch the string. You’ll probably still see a little bit more stretch after shooting as well. I liked my 1956 Kodiak dual shelf at around 7”

Like Ray said, they like a BH around 7-7 1/4".

I've adopted too many bows that needed a good home.

Thanks that is just the info I am looking for. What length string are you using to get that BH?

A 56” B50/B55 at starting point. Now if you have a string maker prestretching their strings you may want to start with 56.5”, it’ll still shoot into a lower brace
