String wax

What is everyone using for string assembly wax. The old wax in the white tube worked good for me. But out of it. The newer stuff is thin and too slick. Potty wax too slick also.

I make my own.
Two parts Bees Wax to one part pine pitch.
Heat up the pitch in an old can until it boils a little, use a dinner fork to lift debris out.
Then stir in the Bees Wax and take it off the heat.
Pour it in a container of some kind and your good to go.
I roll it into a ball about the size of a golf ball.
And with it in a plastic bag, it will last forever.

Toilet wax seal(a new one  ) works well.

We have some Bee keepers from North Dakota that hang around the Coffee shop until the bees have to go to California. They bring them down here in the winter and baby sit them.
I'm going to get a bunch next time there in town.

One toilet ring mixed with a pound of bees wax will give you the perfect string wax, a lifetime supply as well.

  That red wax you get off cheese seems to work good... But I am no expert...  You probably could mix it with some bees wax to get the consistency you want...

Beeswax with a little food grade mineral oil so it isn't so hard. Doesn't take much.

Same ingredients I use for rolling pins and cutting boards, except less oil in string wax.

I use 1:1 beeswax to toilet ring for building strings.
And 2:1 beeswax to toilet ring for string maintenance.

On a side note…..Anyone ever do beeswax finish on a glass bow?

I have zero to add to this because I haven't graduated to making my own strings yet, but I want to thank Stic for starting the thread. It will be very useful for me when I get to the point of making strings, some great info in here.

I found some string wax at Rural King of the right consistency. Will get some more of it to have on hand.

My recipe is actually called string makers wax, just the right consistency to stick all the bundles together. I have probably made at least 500 strings over the years using this wax. Chad of Custom Bowstrings uses the same formula.

Chad gave me a few cups of his wax a few years ago at the Tenn Classic. I think he told me then that is how he makes it.
 Haven't seen Chad(LBR) around lately. Hope he'll doing OK.
