What do you think Kenny? :)

Mark, it would be like the original awood.  I did some with 3 pcs of maple to keep glue lines down.  It didn't show much if any stiffer than just maple...

Now then , for a swap bow a few years back, I made some pretty fast tapers of walnut and some of maple and put them together running opposite and then resawed for core lams.  Walnut to tips and maple to center.

The recipient told me it was the fastest bow he owned. Probably just bein nice tho... :)

Different grain , wondering how much difference grain makes.

I sawed a parallel from each grain type, sanded to .080 "

Then clamped to bench with exactly 18"  over the end.  Measured to a pc of plywood laid on floor . Using the same 2" spring clamp on the end of each one I compared the first measure of each one to the weighted measure.

The results were about as expected, and not enough to make a lot of difference sandwiched in glass.

Thanks for sharing, good info for sure
I wonder which sample would return to neutral the fastest and take the least amount of set after prolonged loading.

Not done yet, as time allows I have another one or two to try.

Have a spine tester I built for wood arrows with a dial indicator to check deflection in thousandths(gasp Roy) that I may try to use to check center deflection...

It would be interesting to see how much difference there is between different spots measured on a single sample with the spine tester.

EDge is always gonna but the best core material. But the grain can sometimes not be the same all the way thru. Your spine may vary. The actionboo Manufactured gonna be most consistant.
Did ja study decibels to Roy cause I hear Kenny laffin all the way here in Indiana

Good info Kenny,
I am surprised the flat grain deflected that much over the edge grain.
I just finished 3 hill style bows with 4 laminations of tapered edge grain maple and they honestly shoot very good as compared to a couple of nice custom bows I have had for  years. I was surprised, I bought the maple stock because it was cheap and ground my own laminations.
