gap shooting

I am a 3 under gap shooter. To get on target at 20yds my arrow tip is 12" down and 12" to the right. I get the 12" down, but why the 12" to the right ? I have a PSE Shaman Recurve 62" 30#@28. I shoot 31" 500 carbon arrows w/125gr field points. My brace height is 71/2" as recommended. My groups are pretty consistent in a 5" or less circle. Any suggestions on why the 12" to the right to get on target ? Sometimes I can get 4 in the 10 ring, but it's 12" to the right to do that. Any ideas, anyone ?

Have you ever checked to see that the eye over your arrow is your dominant eye?  Assuming it is your dominant eye, is it really over the arrow, or is it to the left of the arrow (assuming RH shooter)?

I think Dave is on to your problem. It sure sounds like an alignment issue to me.

Have you messed around with point weight? I know your arrows are long, but that seems like an awfully stiff arrow for a 30# bow.

Thank you for the replys. I have tried 100gr. and 145gr. points and it makes no difference. I used a spine chart from 3rivers that shows 500 as the arrow spine. I am 6'-2" and have long arms-my draw length is 291/2". I have looked in the mirror at full draw and my dominate right eye is directly over the arrow. So, I don't see any alignment issue. Any one have any other ideas. Thank you guys for the suggestions.

Try something way heavier than 145gr and don’t always trust spine calculators because you’re overspined. Did you bareshaft test your bow?

Even out of spine arrows will fly straight down the middle--bare shafts, not so much.


Just because you're looking straight down the shaft in a mirror doesn't mean you're in bone-to-bone alignment.  Unfortunately, we can't see what you're doing. If you could post a video from the front, back and above, perhaps we could help.

I was thinking along the same line, Jim.  1/8” off in alignment of the eye with the arrow will change the POI by 6” at 20 yards.  Hard to see 1/8” out of alignment in a mirror.  If it were me, I would experiment with different anchors from right to left on my face and see what effect that had on POI before I eliminated alignment as a possible issue.
