some arrow fletching ?'s
« on: April 29, 2008, 04:06:00 PM »
I was going to try fletching some of my own aluminum shafts and had afew questions. I have been ordering arrows with 5 in round back feathers in a right helical twist. To fletch my arrows in the same way does it matter if I use left or right wing feathers? Is there a difference , other than the obvious? Also does any one know a good mail order source for easton shafts. Ive seen afew but the prices I've seen have varied widly. Thanks for answering my questions.

If you want your arrows to match you'll need right wing feathers, and a right helical clamp for your fletching jig.  Right helical fletching will cause your arrow to spin clockwise, left wing/helical will spin counterclockwise.

I will add that with screw-in points right wing fletching has the advantage of tightening your points when they hit the target. Left wing fletching would tend to loosen your points because of the counterclockwise spin.
I use left wing on my wood arrows and used to use right wing on my aluminum arrows. I have the proper jig for each.
I always order my shafts from either 3 Rivers Archery or Kustom King Traditional Archery. They both stand behind their products and have great customer service.
Have fun making your arrows.

one more thing, you can get more colors for left wing than for right wing.
that being why i swapped this year. (WHY you cant get right wing solid pinks i have YET to find out!!!!!)

and the point thing, run the threads through some string wax. helps a lot untill you take your points out a lot.

hopefully my new goodies will arrive tomarrow, im getting anxious to see what my new Brannon Special fletching looks like on my arrows! (own creation)
If its brown its down; thats my motto.

Traditional Only:
Check out AMG feathers... I bought some full-length right wing solid pink feathers for my wife... PM me if interested, and I'll send you the dealer info whom I purchased them from.
