I have a very good friend whose two boys (ages 12 and 14) have suddenly expressed a strong interest in traditional archery.  A third, younger brother will probably getting in on the action soon, as well.

My friend has no archery experience, and I am trying to mentor him somewhat from 3 hours away.  I have pointed him toward a light poundage, inexpensive recurve to start the process, but would love it if I could find someone to spend a few minutes with him to show such things as setting a nock point, safe stringing, rudimentary shooting technique, basic bow care, etc.

Is there anyone here who who be willing to help a newbie over the first few hurdles of trad archery?  If so, I would love to put you in touch and see if anything works out.

Thanks,

Daryl

My son in law lives in Aurora I will tell him about this thread.  He just got into traditional 2 years ago so I know exactly what you are talking about, trying to mentor from 3 hours away.

Thanks so much, Dan!

I have had two people besides you reach out with an offer to help (I love this Trad community!), and I have passed this thread along to my friend.  If he doesn't get the chance to connect to someone, I'll touch base and see if you can trade contact info.

Thanks again,

Daryl

Thank you, Bob.  I have passed this information along.

I spent several evenings trying to see if this shoot was happening (or had already happened), but kept running into dead ends, and wondered if the club was even still in existence.  This was one of the first shoots I ever attended nearly 25 years ago when the trad archery bug first bit, and it helped light a fire in me that remains to this day.  I'm glad to hear it is still going on after all these years.

Thanks for taking the time to let us know!

Daryl
