Traditional Friendly Outfitters?
« on: August 23, 2021, 11:05:00 AM »
Based on your experiences or other knowledge, who are some the outfitters that 'understand' the pursuit of game with traditional equipment?

The basis of the question comes from what I feel is a personal bias from many outfitters when I mention traditional tackle. I understand that even what hunt being considered can make a difference. For example, bear hunt outfitters seem more friendly than say, turkey outfitters. No doubt, the outfitter's own experiences are likely part of this perceived bias on my part.

Obviously, any sponsor our this site get due diligence, but I think everyone knows there are many factors that goes into selecting an outfitter. Regardless of species, who were the outfitters that you used that embraced the traditional bowhunter?

Terry, anything is on the table as I retired and have the time to go. The hot things on my bucket list right now (that I haven't got something already booked) is a turkey hunt for Merriam, Oscelo, or Rio. Another immediate need is a great traditional oriented outfitter in Kansas units 11 or 12 for whitetail.

I actually had an outfitter for turkeys tell me he would rather me not come because I wouldn't fit in:)

I would have sworn I responded to this but maybe not.

I have two moose hunting outfitters who are good to traditional bowhunters. One is Alberta Wilderness Guide Service and the other is Ryk Visscher's Hunting Adventures. Both are in Alberta. AWGS is owned by a stickbow shooter and I think that Mike Yancey and Roger Fulton (Black Widow Bows) used them. I have used Ryk's services and have booked with him again. He has had several trad clients and he told me his goto guide shoots traditional.

Bent Crerk Farms out of Robards. KY is extremely well versed in hi end  productive setups  specifically set for traditional hunters.

The have a 140 minimum and will place you only where that is reasonably possible. Know they had four hunters lined up for one particular hunt. The 140's had gone Mia in the past 7 days at six locations. There were only two locations where the 140+ class deer were patterning. Only two hunters were brought in. The other two hunted later.

I really appreciate the replies! I'll look back at this thread anytime I'm looking for a new hunt. Anybody got any trad friendly Rio or Oscelo outfitters?

Stickflingers Manitoba Bear Hunts is a wonderful experience. I usually see over 40 bears on a 6 day hunt. Stands are close and very well set up. Some sites even offer ground blinds. The guides are all terrific guys. Ryan Derlago really makes the extra effort to give hunters a great hunt!
Did I say LOT'S of bears? (even color phases).
I am going back again next Spring! (Please, keep the border open!)

You can't find a better outfitter for Osceola's than Hoppy Kempher of Osceola Outfitters. I've been hunting hogs with him every year for 18 years and each and every hunt was awesome. The Kempher Ranch is absolutely loaded with turkeys.
