Morrison Dakota vs. Shawnee/Dakota: Test Drive Results

Howdy Gang,
I'm trying to decide between ordering one of these two bows, both with the foam-carbon limbs with Bob's new wood veneer overlay.  I have had a Dakota and like them alot, especially the overall light mass weight, but have never shot a Shawnee with Dakota limbs.  I know that several of you have or have had both, and perhaps someone can weigh in on the differences between the two based on extensive experience.  I will test drive a Shawnee prior to placing an order, but sometimes it takes me longer than a test drive to really learn the nuances of a new bow.  So, which do you prefer?

both are great the shawnee would be my choice because it is a little heavier mass wieght.  MHO  ron

I own one Dakota and two Shawnee's. I prefer the one piece but the flexibility of changing limbs and the extra wieght of the shawnee is hard to beat. I think a fellow needs both, so order the one your instinct says to and next time get the other one. Once you have dealt with Bob and shot his bows you will want more. Guy can never have too many Morrisons!

HUNT IT has it down to a science!!!!The Shawnee in my opinion is hard to beat and it isn't as heavy as people tend to think by looking at pictures.SWEET BOW for sure and easy to travel with.Shoots as fast as the best out there /quiet as soon as you string it up!!!!And damn right easy on the eyes.Any one of Bob's bows is QUALITY.

If you are talking about the Dakota one piece longbow, and compairing it to the Shawnee with take down longbow limbs....you are talking about two totaly different feels in the hand...but that's about it.

Both are very user friendly bows, quiet, and beautifully crafted.  The shootability is about the same on either....Shawnee is probably faster, not that its nessesarily needed at the speeds the Dakota shoots.

I have both...well maybe more than both     I much prefer a 1 pc bow but the Shawnee is the first T/D that comes close to my 1 pc bows.  It sure is friendly for air travel & out of state hunts.  Just throw in my duffel and send it thru luggage at the airport.  No hassle with having to declare a bow case.  That's the only time I use a 3 pc bow.  Just me I guess...Doc

I own both and shoot the shawnee best.With that said I don't see myself getting rid of my dakota long bow.The riser on the shawnee is such a slim and agile desighn that I personally feel it's the best happy medium.I have long bow and recurve limbs for it and it's really all I could ask for in shoot ability and conveince when traveling.But it's all a matter of opinion and personal preferance.Your not going to be off base either choice.Good luck

Just my opinion but I love the Shawnee.
The new foam core w/carbon are unbelivable quiet.
They are without a doubt the best limbs I have shot.Good luck can't really go wrong whatever choice you make.

Bob sent me this to test drive.  Cocobolo and Macassar with 56lb C foam/carbon limbs.  I was surprised at the overall light weight that made it feel like a one-piece longbow.  Think I may have to keep it.


 

 

 

This is one of the prettiest pieces of Macassar I've seen.  Pics don't do this riser justice.  The foam/carbon limbs are all business, nothing fancy, but they sling an arrow with authority. These limbs are very, very quiet, and noticeably fast.   Overall a very durable hunting rig that should handle adverse conditions very well.  Those of you who are on the fence about buying one of these should climb down on the buying side.  Yep, I'm going to have to keep it.  Bet Bob already knew that when he put it in the mail.

Nice bow for sure.  I've had both and like them both.  Like Tippet, though, I prefer one-piece bows, but the Shawnee is about as good (and light) as a three-piece can get.  Congrats.

Bob has sent off a lot of test drives that are still being driven.I sure am wanting to try some of those new limbs.I have a little voice in my head saying by next year I will probably have to own some.  :rolleyes:  Does it ever end?That looks like a keeper to me.If you buy it decide you don't like it just give Hillboy a rang.
