Paracord sheath string silencer reminder
« on: October 22, 2021, 10:39:13 AM »
For those search challenged folks.  I thought I'd post up about the paracord sheath string silencers.  Simply cut the PC to 1 1/2 - 2" lengths, pull out the white cord guts.  I use 4 top and 4 bottom.  Put them in the string like any other string silencer material.  Use whatever distance you like, I prefer 18.3% from nocks on longbow and from string touch on recurve.  Shoot @200 times to get a nice puff ball.  At 2" they are @12 grains and cost @$0.11 a set.  Best string silencer I've tried and I have spent some coin on all kinds of silencers.  Just FYI.

I tried them on an inexpensive dacron string and they tore the string up. There were all kinds of popped strands where the paracord sat. Using good old cat whiskers now.

I like four 2" pieces of sheath material top and bottom.  I've personally found 18.3% to be the best spacing for me.  I have 60" bows, but have a 62" longbow, as well.  Vibration is drastically reduced and arrow/string speed is dramatically increased, as well.  For @11 cents a pair this seems pretty good to me.
