Thoughts on this bow..
« on: December 07, 2021, 01:55:30 PM »
So recently, my dad approached me about wanting to shoot a recurve.  He currently has a compound and he is shooting way too many lbs.  Says that it hurts his shoulder.  I had him come shoot my bow, which is 52@28. He shot surprisingly well once he got warmed up and stretched his shoulder out a bit.  He really enjoyed shooting it, and decided that he wanted to get a recurve.  Since his birthday is soon, coupled with Christmas, my brothers and I decided we would get him all set up.  I ended up ordering him a Timber Ridge recurve 45@28 (and several other items) from 3 Rivers and it arrived yesterday.

Has anybody shot/used this bow?  I saw a lot of reviews on it, and overall it had very positive ratings.  I believe it is the same build as the Mandarin Black Duck/Galaxy Ember?  I'm not sure.  I just figured that I'd ask around here a bit in case there is anything that I should know about it and just what the overall consensus is. Thanks for any input.

I haven't shot or even seen one that I know of, but one thing I can guarantee is you should change the string out to a nice padded loop Flemish twist from a good string maker! Virtually none of those production line bows that I know of come with a decent string!

Various bows, but if you see me shooting, it's probably a Toelke in my hand!

Jake i have the timber ridge longbow, a really good shooter. if they sold recurve limbs for it i would have tried some of those too. my bow is very smooth. i have a galaxy ember too, and limbs are interchangable. the galaxy's seem a bit more stiff to me. killed a bunch of deer with it. i have a 45 lb that i bought for my son, but he never shoots it.

I hope he enjoys all of it. Got 2 dozen wood shafts on the way as well that I’m gonna set up for him. I think that he will enjoy shooting a bow again.

Am curious, how heavy of a compound is/was he shooting that is causing him pain where a 52 lb recurve doesn't?

He says that it’s 60 something lbs. I’m not sure, I haven’t checked it out myself.  Whatever it is, I know it’s hurting him because he said that he doesn’t enjoy shooting it because of the pain. My bow is definitely too heavy for him, but he said it didn’t hurt like his compound does. Seems that it hurts him the most when he hits the peak weight in his draw cycle before it breaks over. He will be pulling 7 pounds less on his recurve than mine, so I think that will work well for him. If it doesn’t, we will just get some lighter limbs.
