New To Me "Pete George"
« on: May 03, 2008, 02:16:00 PM »
Got this beautifull Pete George Timberline stringfollow bow in a trade with a great guy! I had never heard of Pete before until this. Did a little research and found out he was a Shultz student, and apparenty a good one! This bow has five lams of Bamboo with clear glass on the back only, a Bocote riser, and what appears to be buffalo tips. It was originally built for Bob Burton and has his name on the side of the riser. I have never shot a better shooting longbow of this style - fast, dead silent even without any silencers, and absolutely no handshock with a B50 string (i've had R/D bows that were not this calm in the hand)! Just thought I would share a few pics of a great bow with all the brethren and if anyone has anymore info on Pete and his bows, please chime in especially Bob. Regards....Spanky

I bought my timberline from Pete in "95". It is 64lbs. at 28 in. It is still a fovorite of mine but the weight is a little much me. I get tired after shooting 100 arrows when we go 3-D shooting. The bow likes wood arrows and 2020 alum. To bad Pete George does not make bows any more. I am not the only guy out here in Ca. that like his bows.

Spanky:
That bow was a one of a kind. The belly lam is Tonkin cane, the other lams are the usual Moso cane. it has one glass layer on the back. I would never have sold that bow if I had not broken my elbow and had to switch to south-paw.
Pete was a good friend of mine and one heck of a bowyer. John Schultz told me he was the best he ever taught. Too bad he only built bows for 4-5 years, he was really developing in to a top notch bowyer.
An interesting side note, I had John Strunk take 3 pounds off the bow, so the writing "White mountain" & "Timberline Longbows" was done by Pat Strunk, John's wife.

Thanks for the compliments everyone and for the info Bob! I can see why you would feel that way about this bow - it's a GREAT shooter and Pete's attention to detail was fantastic! She has definately found a permanent home and will be put to good use. I'll be contacting you to try some of your hex shafts for this one after all it's only fitting that a bow made for you should have some of your arrows.

Very nice bow. Often plain magic in straight longbows with a history. Specs?

She's 66"s and 56#@27". Thanks again for the compliments guy's! Flint, we should all be kicking ourselves for not buying up a bunch of these while Pete was still making them! I think Bob put some good Mojo in her, and hopefully we'll make some more together this fall!

I've been impressed with every bow of his I have ever seen. It's heart breaking that he is no longer making them. Does anyone ever have any contact with him? Any chance we can talk him into building bows again?  Greg
