A question about Tight Bond III

I have used Tight Bond III for laminating wood on wood, like bamboo on red oak but can it be used with glass on wood?

Probably not with glass especially on a bending limb.

You could do a test piece but I expect TBIII won't bond to the glass at all. It works by filtering into the grain and cells of the wood and then hardening in place. With the fibreglass being non-porous the glue has nothing to get a bite into.

Almost 100% predictable to fail.  It's your call,  but epoxy would be a good choice.

ANY epoxy, even the cheap 5 minute kind, will work better with wood-glass than and TB product.

Titebong 3 on wood puts moisture in the bow and it will take a long time to dry.
Better off using smooth-on epoxy on your wood bows too.

I called tight bond a while back and asked them about using it for cloth to wood for backing with synthetic materials like polyester etc. They were not optimistic on it for that use given the flexing etc, but thought it might stick if it were a stable surface. Probably a hard no on glass.

TB III is a great glue, best for bonding wood to wood. Have used it in other applications with success, like with fabrics, leather and paper. An extreme example, I use TB III to glue feathers on both aluminum and carbon arrow shafts. Works just fine applied to really clean shafts, a bead on the quill with a syringe and a bit of patience with the dry time. Fletches stay put. Anyway, while TB might work in all wood limbs, I wouldn’t try it for bonding wood and fiberglass for use in limbs. Yeah, stick with epoxy for limb layup.

It does work fine in all wood lam bows. The only trick is you have a pretty short time to get the glue on the lams, get the stack together and get it all clamped up on the form.

Another thing to think about is that Titebond is not a gap filling glue like epoxy.

2X on this post. Even using Urac 185 you'll have issues. That is why all the professional bowyers use mostly epoxy..... I say mostly because there is another glue called huntsman that some bowyers have gone to with good success. But i found the viscosity way to thin for my liking. i'll stick with good old EA-40 myself....  Arlo

Bow laminate is made with epoxy and fiberglass, why not just use what is assured to be compatible??

Huntsman glue is mostly epoxy
