Aluminum arrow recommendations for a Northern Mist ASL 51,45# longbows

I’m looking for arrow recommendations for2 bows . A northern mist classic ASL 51@28 AND a Northern Mist classic 45@28 using a 150 grain broadhead.

Hey Rich, you don’t state what your draw length is, I’m assuming somewhere around 28”, I’m shooting almost the same,for your 51#er go with 1916’s and your 45#er go with 1816’s  they both shoot great out of my bows at the same weight.

I would agree with Steve.  My 49# Tall Times Stickflinger shot 1916 really well with a 100 grain head (I borrowed it from a friend).  The problem for me was my drawlength is a little over 28” and I like a little heavier head so went with 2016 that is 29”.

I ordered a dozen and cut them to length but medical issues forced me to put my bows away for awhile now, so I have not been able to really shoot them and see how they perform.

But if I was a little shorter in drawlength and could shoot 28” arrows,  those 1916 really flew nice.

I like the 1816-1916 recommendations as well.Dont rule out 2016s

Pretty sure the NM Classic you have is cut 1/8th out from center?I think thats a straight limbed ASL?Nice shooting bow but not a burner in FPS.bows Cut 1/8th out from center typically require a softer spin to clear the sight window cleanly

I shoot 1916s and 2016s out of my bows that are around 40-45#s and I draw 28.I do play with length a bit from 29 to 30.5 inches.I have alot of arrows in those 2 sizes and can always find one of the 2 to fit my bows if not both!

Most those bows are cut to center and are hybrids or recurves that are typically Center shot or slightly past center cut.I mostly shoot 150 grain heads.Sometimes 125 and 175 gr.FF strings mostly but do shoot B-50 as well on some of my bows.I can play with string type as well to get a better tune for arrowflight.

I would not rule out the 2016 on the 51 pounder.Might need to cut it longer.No big deal.A little bit heavier shaft.

I shoot a 1916 cut to 29.5 out my mild reflex/deflex longbow with a 150 grain head.Its cut 1/8th out from center and I use a 14 strand D-97 on that bow.Its 46 pounds at 28 inches.

I'm going to throw you a curve ball, I have several of Steve's bows and I am shooting 60-65 spine Surewood doug firs with 160 tips, and I also shoot 400 spine carbons with 200 grain tips, and I also shoot 2018's with 160 or 200 grain tips.  My 45 pound Skanee likes 2016's with 145 tips, that is my lightest bow, the heaviest I have is 69 pounds. Most of them seem to prefer the heavier Surewood shafts, it makes them very dead in my hand and fly great.  You can get a test kit from Surewood with different spines if you want to try the wood shafts. I shoot 28 1/2" to 29" shaft length.  Good luck in your adventure of shaft hunting.

Yes, he does. I currently have one of Steve’s Classics 51@28 , I draw 28”. I shoot 2016’s with a 145 tip, if I drop down to 45-48# , can I use the same arrows?

Yes you should be just fine with that arrow set up out of that poundage bow.  That's what I shoot out of my 45# Skanee take down.
