After running the heat cable through two 2 hr cycles the outer covering looks sort of deformed in places telling me that it isn't designed to handle that much heat. So now, instead of wondering if it would work I now know the answer.
If I'd known that I would live this long I'd have taken better care of myself.

Here ya go…. Check out this resource. Nichrome is probably the best heating element material you could find.  Do some research here and see what you come up with.
