need Bob Lee picture/thoughts
« on: May 06, 2008, 10:52:00 AM »
I am probably going to order a Bob Lee.  I see pictures of several bows on their website, but none with the brown wood and brown glass.  Can anyone post a picture of the brown ash riser with brown glass on the limbs.

I had a BW PL and PSA.....how would a Lee take down LB compare to these bows in regards to performance and draw cycle(PL 51#@30" shot 172fps, and PSA 56#@30" shot 184fps both with a 540gr arrow).  I want a bow in the 44-46# @ 30" (shoulder injury)that is 64". This will be used for deer/turkey/hogs. Your thoughts and experiences would be great.

thanks

Their recurve is going to be a little bit faster, I have compared Bob Lee's, with another longbow, and Bob Lee's Hunter in the combination you've mentioned is faster by 13 fps with the same arrow, and the same poundage, I have the "hunter"

I will look up the thread and see if I can bring it to the top again.  It has photos on it, if not out trying post them on here.  If you look at my signature line you see that they're the same poundage.

Carl,

Yes, the hunter is what I would get.  They have a 40# @ 28" brown/brown hunter takedown LB that is 64" in the "bows to go" section. It should be about 46# at 30".  That would fit the bill for me.  What is the wait time if I order a hunter custom made?  What FPS are you getting with 43#@29" Lee and what arrow weight??? Is it a takedown long bow?

The $900+- for a widow is just getting a BIT hard to swallow.
thanks

This is a Bob Lee "Hunter" it is a 56 in., the riser is 15 in., and there's deftly no problem with the site window, and there is no pinching, my D/L is 29"

The deer feet that are in the photos on the bow are not standard, that was something that was done for me, this is the first time Bob Lee has put that on a bow.  It's just something I requested.  The quiver on the bow is from eagle flight quiver, it does not affect the performance of the bow.

That looks nice.....I was kinda worried that the brown/brown combo would look kinda strange.  It looks like it is a chocolate brown that is darker than the ash riser. I had in my mind it was going to be a lighter color....but that combo(if it is brown ash/brown glass which it looks like) is NICE.

What was your FPS with your bow??????I know that the LB will be a bit slower at the same weight, but hopefully my 30" draw plus the 3# heavier will make up for that.

thanks

I had to wait awhile, because I requested deer feet be painted on the bow, but they should have it to you under normal circumstances five to seven days.  I worked with Rod, as far as my arrows I'm using Axis 500's.  For the Broadhead it's the Magness two blade with bleeders 125 G, total arrow wt. 435 G, but I plan on adding 25 more grains.  I'm shooting off the shelf, but I did purchase a couple of arrow rest.  I haven't saw the need to use them yet.  I do have bush buttons on the string, along with limbs savers string leeches, with that set up I am right at 186 fps.

Mine is a three-piece takedown recurve, as far as the wt. time if you ordered one, call the toll-free number and ask for Rob, he'll give you time on it.  I can't remember what they said if I custom ordered mine, my bow actually says 40# @ 28" but because of my 29 in. drawl length, it is a 43#, but I have not scale the yet to see if it is any more poundage than that.  I'll probably do it this week, to see if it is actually any more wt. and what I think.

You definitely can't go wrong with the Bob Lee, I have just heard too much good about them.  And now that I have one, I would not hesitate in ordering another one, I will be ordering 45# or 48# limbs for my recurve, I don't know if I will do that before hunting season are not.  But it is a lot easier ordering different sized limbs that you want, rather than an entire new bow.

I would like mine to be 45#'s @ 29", I guess I could gain that I have 30 in. draw, but that sure would mess up my anchoring point.

Some people call it " plain Jane" bow, but I happen to think it looks nice, the colors go well together.

I'm waiting for a used Bob Lee hunter recurve that I bought off from this site. 56" 56#@28, It has the new shorter riser. I have seen one in a archery shop and fell in love with the grip. All Bob Lees I have shot are near the top on performance.I wont be selling my Black Widow SA III but I realy think I'm going to like the Bob Lee.

I don't think I can give mine up long enough to have the striping done, but that looks pretty cool, and I bet it also gives you a nonslip grip, although I haven't noticed mine slipping on me.  I would also think that the rattlesnake skins gives it a natural camouflage look in the woods.

Doug,

I know the one you're waiting to receive, I was tempted on that, but it's a little bit over my poundage, but I know I'll be coming up to 45 or 48 lbs. on a new set limbs in the future.
